How a parking lot became Center Park

by Ellen Miller
On September 26, 2006 the Board of Selectmen gave final approval to the Center Park project. The small park on Lowell Street next to Ferns' garage, usually considered just a parking lot, will soon be beautified for the benefit of all Carlisleans. See the entire article in the Carlisle Mosquito

Carlisle Garden Club Presented Isabella Stewart Gardner on 20 September 2008 at Center Park

The Carlisle Garden Club hosted "Isabella Stewart Gardner: America's First Patroness of the Arts" on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Center Park. A recognized leader of Boston's salon scene, Mrs. Gardner, with characteristic verve and candor, related stories about her luminous circle of family and friends, relived journeys to exotic lands, and shared other potentially scandalous encounters. Reenactor Jessa Piaia's dramatic portrayal was set in 1909, six years after the opening of Fenway Court (now the Gardner Museum). Mrs. Gardner designed and built this mansion for her extensive art collection and willed it to the City of Boston.

Ms. Piaia studied performance at London's Oval House Theatre and works in the Anthropology Department at Harvard University. Research for this program was conducted at the archives of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Historic New England, the Church of the Advent, and the Society of St. John the Evangelist.

The Center Park Desgin

Like an aerial view-no path around back. All open. Tall, slender trees there now. Colorful flower beds. Possible bench sites. 24" high timber fence replacing cut-off telephone poles (brown knobs below). Two field stone paths to park from arrival area. Granite entrance posts. Roma pack instead of asphalt surface planned. Slope curbing. Oval in front will bring the park "to the street" in a beautiful way.
(note scale of the automobiles in the parking area)
